Calendar & News

      Our annual community potato soup and pie supper was held January 10.  After the supper, the congregation met for our annual business meeting.  Elected were deacons Phil Schroeder and Ritchey Toevs,  chairman Loren Huse, secretary bill Schroeder and trustee Roger Maisch.  Loewn Huse subsequentlly resigned and wasd replaced by Dwight Horsch.

      We watched the movie "The Radicals", about the  early  Anabaptists and Michael Sattler on February 17.

      Katherine Pitts, PNMC Executive Conference Minister, gave the message on february 24.  This was followed by a church potluck meal in the fellowship hall.

      The third annual Humanitarian Fair was held at the elementary school February 26.  Churches in Aberdeen cooperated by providing a soup meal ;  quilts and other sewilng projects were there for the community to work on.  Proceeds and donated items went to the local women's crisis center, the food bank, and the senior citizen center.

      A Christmas Eve Candlelight service was held in our sanctuary with the reading of scripture, singing of carols, and lighting of candles.

      A women’s trio represented our church at the annual community Christmas concert at the Middle School December 16.

      Annie Marie was born to Laurel and Josh Schroeder December 10.
      We were blessed to have Paula Killough from Mennonite Mission Network as our guest speaker on Harvest Mission Sunday, Oct. 28. 

      Family Camp was held at Palisades on Labor Day weekend.  Our Sunday worship service was held in the beautiful outdoors, with Mark Schroeder, a chaplain in the National Guard, as speaker.

      Our Community Harvest Dinner was held at the Catholic Church Park on the evening of Aug. 25.  We and other churches sponsored the event which drew about 300 people.

      Speaking in Pastor Kaiser's absence were George Leppert, Duane Oesch, Jamie Mayer, and Charlotte Chabuka, a pastor at Praise Temple of God in Pocatello.  We have been blessed by these speakers.

      Pastor Jerry and Allene Kaiser left Aberdeen July 23, and spent the month of August as tour guides at Menno Hof in Shipshewana, Ind.  It was part of Kaiser's sabbatical and they returned on Sept. 7.

      The annual Gospel on the Grass was held August 5 at the Arbors, a venue of Loren and Betty Huse.

      Palisades Camp was busyy in early July;  24 children attended Junior Camp and 15 attended Youth Camp.  It was a good time of spiritual growth and recreation.


           Vern and Margaret Tieszen are celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary on June 24 with an open house from 2-4 at Autumn Winds in Caldwell.  Their home address is 200 West Beech St., Apt. 105 in Caldwell, 83605.  No gifts please, but cards and letters would be appreciated.  Questions?  vickitieszen@cableone.net

     Bible School was held June 4-8, concluding with a fine program Friday evening.  Average attendance was 46, down considerably from previous years.

     Eldon Harder, 89, died May 26.  Survivors are wife Helen Klempel Harder, sons Jim, Gene, and Stan;  10 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

      Lloyd Hoffer, 92, died April 16.  Survivors are sons Lloyd Paul, Terry, Dallas, Randy, and Brent, and daughters Marsha Friesen and Sandra Loy;  24 grandchildren and 65 great-grandchildren.  Services were in the Aberdeen Mennonite Church and burial in the Aberdeen Cemetery.  Lloyd was a kind and beloved man and was a very thoughtful and creative person.     

     April 22 was our annual Agriculture Sunday.  People were encouraged to wear their work clothes.

     An open house was held in the fellowship hall on March 24 and 25, for a quilt showing.  Women from our church and community made many quilts, comforters, and other hand make items for the MCC sale in Nampa on April 14.  It was a beautiful display.

     Church was canceled on April 15 so that several people could attend the MCC sale in Nampa, 250 miles to the west.

     On Maundy Thursday  we held a Tenebrae service and communion.

     A reception was held in the fellowship hall on March 17 to honor a still very active Patty Toevs for her 90^th birthday.

     We watched the video “Seagoing Cowboys” Sunday evening March 4.  Over 7,000 men, many of them Mennonites, cared for livestock being shipped to war torn Europe.  Two of the men, Milton Bartel and Henry Wiebe, were from our congregation.
     The annual church business meeting was held on the evening of January 12.  Elected Deacon was Tim Satterfield;  Bill Schroeder, Anne Hege, and Brian Schneider were re-elected chairman, secretary, and treasurer, respectively.
        
        As usual, prior to the meeting, our famous Idaho Potato soup supper was held, with an abundance of homemade pies.  the supper is open to the public and many community people participated.   Proceeds of the meal were sent to the Hispaniic Pastoral Leadership and Education fund.

        The second annual Humanitarian Fair was held in the elementary school on February 28.  Local churches and townspeople participated.  A free soup meal was provided and special projects (quilts, etc.) were worked on.  Most of the proceeds and donated items went to the local food bank and to the women's crisis center.
